How do I create a video ad with a conversion goal?

Open a campaign, choose "New ad creative", upload your video plus a poster image, fill in the page + destination, and (optionally) turn on "Optimize for a conversion event" to make Meta optimise toward a pixel event like "Complete registration". Nothing spends until you approve, apply, and un-pause.

Before you start

  • A Meta ad account connected to this workspace (the Meta module must be enabled).
  • A campaign already created — creatives and ad sets attach to a campaign.
  • Your video file (and, for video, a still image to use as the poster) or a single image.
  • For conversion optimisation: a pixel linked to the ad account, already receiving the event you want to optimise for.

Steps

  1. Open the creative builder

From your campaign, choose Campaigns → (your campaign) → New ad creative. The page is titled "New ad creative".

  2. Upload your media (Image or video)

In the "Image or video" card, use "Click to upload an image or video" and pick your file. For a video, also upload a "Poster image" — Meta requires a still to show before the video plays and uses it as the thumbnail. Wait until "Meta is processing the video…" finishes and the media shows as ready.

  3. Fill in the creative details

In the "Creative" card set the "Facebook page" (the "Instagram account" linked to that page is used for Instagram Stories/Reels placements), the "Destination URL", the "Primary text", and the "Call to action" (e.g. "Sign up").

  4. Choose the ad set goal

In the "Ad set" card, name it. To optimise for signups/sales, turn on "Optimize for a conversion event", then pick your "Pixel" and the "Conversion event" (e.g. "Complete registration"). Leaving the toggle off optimises for clicks instead.

  5. Create the draft

Review the summary and choose "Create draft". This drafts the ad set and creative as a changeset — nothing is sent to Meta yet.

What happens next

  • You land on the changeset for the draft. Its preview shows the video (id, poster, call to action, Instagram account) and, when set, the conversion optimisation (pixel + event).
  • Approve then apply the changeset to create the campaign, ad set, creative, and ad on Meta — all paused.
  • They start spending only after you un-pause them in Decisa or Meta Ads Manager.

Gotchas

A video creative always needs a poster image — without it the creative can't be built (Meta uses it as the thumbnail). If you turn on "Optimize for a conversion event" you must select a pixel; the ad set is then forced to conversion optimisation, and the event (e.g. "Complete registration") must be one your pixel actually receives, or Meta won't have data to optimise on. Finally, drafting changes nothing live — the campaign stays paused until you approve, apply, and un-pause.
